Artists traditionally begin their careers in their home country and then make their way to the rest of the international music scene. Membran, an entertainment and label services company headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, has reversed this pattern for some of today’s biggest names in music.

22 year old vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier, named “Jazz’ new messiah” by The Guardian and signed to Membran internationally via Quincy Jones Productions, has earned two nominations in the Best Arrangement category for “Flintstones” and “You and I.” Already known to millions of YouTube fans for his dynamic, multi-genre performances in which he arranges, plays, and edits all of the parts into a “band of Jacobs,” he now tours the world with this one-man show, thanks, in part, to his year-long collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The music industry is buzzing about California R&B and Hip Hop wunderkind Anderson .Paak, nominated in the categories of Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album for Malibu, which was marketed and distributed by Membran in Europe through a long-standing label services deal with Steelwool Entertainment.

Membran also continues to nurture its relationship with two rising stars of Jazz, Motéma label-mates Joey Alexander and René Marie. Having successfully established Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Gregory Porter’s career in Europe well before breaking in America (Water and Be Good are both licensed exclusively from Motéma Music), Membran is set to repeat this feat.

At just 13 years of age, piano sensation Joey Alexander has firmly entrenched himself as one of the most distinguished newcomers in Jazz. The title track from his second album, Countdown, is nominated for Best Improvised Jazz Solo. Seasoned vocalist René Marie has also been honored for her latest release, Sound of Red, in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category.

Two artists by L.A.-based label Cleopatra, recently signed to a distribution deal with Membran, are also nominated: New Orleans blues guitarist Kenny Neal’s Bloodline for Best Contemporary Blues Album and folk duo Judy Collins & Ari Hest’s Silver Skies Blue for Best Folk Album.

The 2017 Grammy Awards will be held Feb 12, at The Staples Center in Los Angeles.
